McGraw Hill Reading & Math Apps

Until April 26, McGraw-Hill has made some of their apps available for free, so they are now on our iPads! Here's what they're all about:

Grammar Wonderland (Primary K-2)

Practice using and identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives with fun games. There are several options and levels to choose from to differentiate with your students.

 

Grammar Wonderland (Elementary 3-6)

Practice using and identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives with fun games, with more advanced levels for the upper grades. There are several options and levels to choose from to differentiate with your students.

Word Wonderland

 Primary K-2 and Elementary 3-6

   

Practice word sorting with the wide variety of levels in these games, from short and long vowels up to Greek/Latin roots. Again, there are so many options to differentiate!

Sail Through Math

This app has levels that can be used with all grade levels! It has four math categories: math facts (+, -, x, /), algebra (solving simple equations), number sense (naming, comparing, factors, and multiples), and rational numbers (decimals, fractions, and integers). There are 3 levels for each subject as well. Did I mention differentiation?!

Don't forget we also have several of the McGraw-Hill Everyday Math apps on our iPads already also. Check them out when you get the chance!

New iPad Apps: Bricasso and Learn Money

Here are two more new apps that we have on our iPads!

Bricasso is an app that has a lot of potential! 

Basically, it is Legos on the iPad. You can choose a background for your design and use the variety of colored blocks to build whatever you want! Here are a couple examples:

     

While you might be saying to yourself, "this just seems like a toy", I think it would an engaging tool to use with students when studying area and perimeter. Or, it could be a fun start to a creative writing project. I first learned of the app on the Technology Tailgate, and a teacher had her students design and invent a car that did not use gas - they used Bricasso to create their cars. Here is one of iIntegrateTechnology's students' examples:

Learn Money is another new app on our iPads. 

Learn Money's content is aligned to Common Core State Standards, and is broken up into 8 different topics with lessons and quizzes: Identifying Coins (Penny, Nickel, Dime), Value of Coins, Counting Coins, Quarter and Half Dollar, Money in Dollars, Making Amounts, Add/Subtract Money, and Making Change.

New iPad Apps: World Book of Animals & Number Munchers

As promised our iPads were updated over Spring Break! Here are a couple of the new apps we have:

World Book of Animals

Barb U. requested that we get this app in addition to our World Book online subscription. The app gives kids opportunities to explore, compare, rank, and quiz themselves on their favorite animals. The interactive app features hundreds of pictures, videos and animal sounds, quick facts, encyclopedia articles, an education game, and more!

Number Munchers

Kevan requested this old-time favorite! It has various levels to help students practice multiples, factors, primes, equality, and inequality. I'm sure the kids would have a fun time practicing their math skills!

Other apps include: Grammar Wonderland, Word Wonderland, Bricasso, and Splash Money. I'll highlight them also in upcoming iWonders, but check out an iPad to play with them now if you're interested!

Instant Classroom and TED-Ed

A little random this week, but here are two things you might enjoy!

First up is a website called Instant Classroom (thanks to Teresa G. for sharing!) It gives you an easy way to have an instant random name generator, seating chart or classroom group generator. She says that she uses it a lot for the random name generator to call on students randomly and the students really enjoy it. Thanks Teresa!

Next.. have you ever heard of a TED talk? TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is a global set of conferences owned by a non-profit foundation. It was formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading". TED-Ed is a new platform of TED which shares many educational videos. Enjoy exploring this fun, unique website! (They have an app too!)

TED.com is the original if you haven't seen it before. Here is one of my favorite TED Talks, by Sir Ken Robinson.
